The Department of Nursing offers a 39-44 credit Master of Science (MS) and post-master's certificates in four specialty roles: nurse educator, nurse administrator, informatics, and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).

This MS program was established to address the nationwide shortage of professional nurse leaders prepared at the graduate level in these areas to meet the public’s demand for quality nursing care.
The MS programs are state approved and nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and are designed to concur with the standards for master's education as set forth by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing in its Essentials of Master’s Education for Advanced Nursing Practice. The post-master's certificates are available to nurses who already hold a master's degree in nursing.
The MS program curriculum is designed as a two-year program of study for full-time students and a 3-4 year program of study for part-time students. Some courses are offered in a hybrid, online or condensed format. The curriculum consists of three parts: core, health and illness concentration, and the specialty roles of nurse educator, nurse administrator, informatics, and FNP. Core courses satisfy the content areas of ethics, human diversity and social issues, health care delivery, and research. The health and illness concentration focuses on current issues that impact specific populations. The centerpiece of the curriculum consists of four specialty roles that prepare students to assume primary leadership roles as professionals for 21st century Contact Us healthcare delivery.
Graduates of the MS and post-master’s certificate programs are prepared to function in professional leadership positions in the healthcare marketplace.
- Students who graduate from the education track are prepared to serve as faculty members in schools of nursing, as staff-development coordinators, as in-service educators, or as community educators.
- Students who graduate from the administrator track are prepared for managerial and administrative roles in healthcare agencies and institutions.
- Students who graduate from the informatics track are prepared as function as technology educators, facilitators, and consultants in health information systems.
- Students who graduate from the FNP program are prepared to serve as primary care providers who offer coordinated, comprehensive, and quality healthcare services to patients in a variety of settings.
