Prominent Jesuit Theologian to Speak at Le Moyne College
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Prominent Jesuit theologian Roger Haight, S.J., will speak on “Christian Spirituality for Seekers” on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium at Le Moyne College.
Who are today's seekers, and can the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, be relevant to them? How might Ignatius' Exercises be adapted to our time and to a diverse population that includes unbelievers, Christians filled with questions, and practitioners of non-Christian religions?
In this presentation, Roger Haight, S.J., will discuss the answers to these questions that he develops in his most recent book, “Christian Spirituality for Seekers: Reflections on the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola” (Orbis 2012). He will explain how, like Jesus of Nazareth, the Exercises possess a powerful appeal for all people. Signed copies of his book will be available for purchase before and after the lecture.
Father Haight is a Jesuit priest and theologian. A former president of the Catholic Theological Society of America, he also taught at the Weston School of Theology and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. His previous books include “Dynamics of Faith” and “Jesus: Symbol of God,” which was named the winner of the 1999 top prize in theology from the U.S. Catholic Press Association. He is currently a scholar-in-residence at Union Theological Seminary.
This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the McDevitt Center for Creativity and Innovation. For more information, please contact the McDevitt Center at (315) 445-6200 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
