“Melting Ice, Mending Creation: A Catholic Approach to Climate Change”

On Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., the Sanzone Center for Catholic Studies and Theological Reflection will host the 2013 Feast of St. Francis Education Initiative -- “Melting Ice, Mending Creation: A Catholic Approach to Climate Change.” This multi-pronged event – including a panel discussion and documentary screenings – will take place in Grewen Auditorium on the Le Moyne campus.

The Catholic Coalition on Climate Change, in building on an emerging and key theme of Pope Francis to more fully care for and protect God’s Creation, announces an education program for the Feast of St. Francis.

"Melting Ice, Mending Creation: A Catholic Approach to Climate Change" will highlight the Pontifical Academy of Science's Working Group (PAS) statement on climate change (Fate of Mountain Glaciers in the Anthropocene), and combine it with other teaching tools including the work of science photographer James Balog, who has documented the collapse of glaciers around the world, the short documentary film Sun Come Up, highlights from the BBC documentary series The Future of Food, and comments by members of the campus and local community, including students and faculty, who will speak to the issues of environmental change and justice.
