When it comes to choosing a major, there are lots of myths.
Contrary to what you may have heard, a major will not decide your career; you don’t need a particular major to go to law school or medical school; and being undecided about a major is not a bad thing. In fact, many Le Moyne students don’t declare a major until they’ve taken a few classes, become involved in some professional or extracurricular activities and had a chance to reflect on what they want to do.
In short, you need to decide what your skills are and where your interests lie. That takes both time and personal reflection.
If you are exploring majors, consider the following:
• Discuss options with your advisor and instructors in classes you enjoy.
• Meet early and periodically with the staff in the Office of Career Services.
• Take some self-assessments and use online resources available through career services.
