Le Moyne College Presents Concert Celebrating 50th Anniversary of Vatican II

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will present a concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of Vatican II on Saturday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 East Onondaga Street, in downtown Syracuse.

Join area musicians for a spirit-filled afternoon of music inspired by the vision of the Second Vatican Council. Performers will include the Le Moyne College Singers, under the direction of Jocelyn Rauch; Joyful Noise, Le Moyne’s liturgical music choir, under the direction of Thomas Andino; soloists Janet Brown, David Rudari, Carl Johengen, Monica Cerio Merante and Jocelyn Rauch; local community singers; and a professional orchestra conducted by Carl Johengen and Travis Newton. Selections will include compositions by The St. Louis Jesuits, Michael Joncas, David Haas, Tony Alonso and Le Moyne alumna M.D. Ridge ’59, among others.

The highlight of the afternoon will be the performance of Carl Johengen’s work, “Veni, Creator, Spiritus.” Written to com¬memorate the 30th anniversary of Vatican II, the composition captured first prize in a national competition sponsored by World Library Publications in 1992. Johengen, who was the director of music for the Diocese of Syracuse from 1989-1992, will be present to conduct the work.

The Rev. John McGraw, a priest in the Diocese of Syracuse who attended Vatican II, will also offer some remarks on the Council.

The concert is free and open to the public. However, donations will be accepted to support the National Pastoral Musician's Scholarship Fund. For more information call (315) 445-4547.
