Madden School of Business Maintains Accreditation from Prestigious AACSB International
The Madden School of Business at Le Moyne College has maintained its accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
“We are thrilled that we have maintained our accreditation from AACSB,” said Jim Joseph ’83, dean of the Madden School of Business at Le Moyne. “This is a prestigious and important outside verification, one that confirms the excellence and relevance of the curriculum and programs offered by the Madden School.”
“This is just the latest in a series of tremendous advancements for business education here at Le Moyne since we received initial accreditation by AACSB in 2009,” said Dr. Linda LeMura, provost and vice president for academic affairs at the College. “Our students are the beneficiaries of this work and are receiving a business education that is both cutting edge and allows them to enter the workforce well prepared for success. I would like to commend my colleagues for this important news and the wonderful record of achievement we have experienced over the past five years.”
Among the areas that the AACSB reaccreditation team touted:
• Substantial engagement of business community (i.e. a School of Business Advisory Committee, an MBA Advisory Committee, and advisory committees for undergraduate majors.)
• A strategic planning process that helped it achieve a named school of business status and establish three well-funded centers of excellence;
• Significant student appreciation for faculty and business community engagement, including a mentor program for upperclassmen and a vibrant internship program;
• Well-functioning curriculum development process that is owned by the full-time faculty well represented on a Curriculum Committee.
Le Moyne College joins an elite group of institutions that have achieved business accreditation from AACSB International. Less than 5% of institutions worldwide have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education. The Madden School of Business was established in 2011 and named for alum Michael D. Madden ’71 in 2012. In 2013, the School moved into the first floor of totally refurbished Mitchell Hall; this state-of-the-art facility includes a modern trading floor and an analytics and marketing research lab. During summer 2014 the second floor of Mitchell Hall will be renovated to house the School’s three centers of excellence, as well as the Arrupe Program in Social Ethics for Business, the Jesuit Case Series, the Family Business Center, study/collaborative workspace for students and faculty, and a seminar style laboratory where management-leadership course will be taught.
Currently, the Madden School of Business has an enrollment of approximately 600 undergraduate students and 140 graduate students. The School boasts a comprehensive business undergraduate program with seven majors: accounting, business analytics, finance, human resources, information systems, management and leadership, and marketing. The School also offers two masters degrees – a masters in business administration (MBA) and a newly approved masters of science in information systems (MSIS). Students at the undergraduate level have an option to complete a five-year program leading to a bachelor’s degree and an MSIS. The School also offers a general MBA degree and students who pursue an accounting major at the undergraduate level have an option to complete a five-year program leading to a bachelor’s degree and an MBA. A variety of undergraduate certificate programs and a graduate certificate in health care leadership are also offered.
“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”
