Le Moyne College Hosts Talk on Gendered Violence

<p>SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will host a talk by anthropologist Svetlana Peshkova on “Gendered Violence: Levels, Subjects and Participants” on Thursday, April 3, at 2:30 p.m. in the Reilley Room, located in Reilly Hall.<br /> <br /> While violence is generally associated with physical injury, Peshkova will delve even deeper into this subject by asking several questions including: What are the connections between structural violence and violence perpetrated by individual actors? In what ways is violence carried out and discussed? And who are the actors and the subjects of gendered violence? <br /> <br /> A visiting professor teaching courses in Islam and anthropology at Syracuse University, Peshkova’s areas of expertise are Islam, gendered violence, and Central Asia and Central Europe. She previously worked at the J.B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. <br /> <br /> This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Anthropology Club, the Kevin G. O’Connell, S.J., Professorship in the Humanities and the Center for Peace and Global Studies at Le Moyne College.
