Purdy Elected President of NYS Disability Services Council

<p>SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Roger G. Purdy, director of disability support services at Le Moyne College, was recently elected president of the New York State Disability Services Council. The organization represents 180 members from 113 campuses and institutions of higher education including public (SUNY and CUNY), independent, and proprietary. The Council is an “independent, professional organization of individuals who have responsibility for the provision of disability services to students in New York state in degree-granting institutions of higher education.” <br /> <br /> <br /> Purdy has worked on the U.S. President’s Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities, the Steering Committee of the New York State Task Force on Higher Education and Disability, and the Onondaga County Council on Disability. He served as a member of a working group examining the implementation of New York State Education Law Chapter 219 until spring of 2007, and was involved in legislation that provided part-time TAP funding in New York state for students with disabilities. In November 2005, he received the Mattie Letham Community Leadership Award from Aurora of Central New York for contributions promoting the independence of people with sensory impairments.</p>
