Learn More About the Arts at Le Moyne

Many Le Moyne students write poems, stories, personal essays, memoirs, plays and scripts, but not all share their love of writing with others or have the opportunity to develop their literary talents in a structured and disciplined fashion. This program helps students explore language through writing workshops that emphasize experimentation and craft in small-group settings and through individualized work with creative writing faculty members. The creative writing curriculum consists of five required courses: four writing workshops, and one course in 19th or 20th century literature. Current courses include the following: Creative Writing Workshop; Script Writing; Advanced Fiction Workshop; Advanced Poetry Workshop; Introduction to Playwriting; Writing the One-Act Play; Nonfiction Writing Workshop; various Special Topics courses; and the Independent Study. Qualified concentrators and minors may also undertake an honors degree in creative writing. Students completing a creative writing concentration are generally interested in preparing themselves for careers in writing, publishing, copy editing, teaching, advertising, and public relations.
