Physician Assistant Student Society

The Physician Assistant Student Society is the official organization of the physician assistant studies student body of Le Moyne College. The society encourages and supports academic achievement, clinical excellence and community involvement. It promotes the physician assistant as an important member of the health care team. The student society has one junior and one senior representative at the national, state and local level. The representatives serve as liaisons between the student society and physician assistant professional organizations: AAPA, NYSSPA and CNYPAA.

Community Outreach

Service-learning through community outreach is a valuable component of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Le Moyne College.  Our students partner with many agencies that serve a diverse population in the Syracuse area.  We work to improve health literacy, reduce disparities among health care recipients, and through this process broaden our perspective and improve our cultural competency.  Our service projects include working with The Center for New Americans, which assists refuge families that have recently arrived in the country, and the Salvation Army food pantries and teen pregnancy programs. We also support local health clinics like Amaus and the Syracuse Community Health Center, as well as the West Side Learning Center, which offers resources to the Spanish speaking community.  Other organizations with which we have partnered include  Booth House, a shelter for runaway teens; Vera House, which supports women and families suffering from domestic violence;  L’Arche, which provides services for the developmentally disabled; and Welch Terrace, which provides housing and other resources to people living with HIV and AIDS.
