Welcome to the web site of the Student Research Committee at Le Moyne College.
An important part of college education is learning how to do scholarship and
research. This page tells you how to obtain support for undergraduate
research projects. Feel free to contact the chair or a member of the
committee if you have any questions about the process.
Committee
The Student Research Committee solicits and evaluates proposals to support
research by undergraduate students (in conjunction with a faculty member).
The committee makes recommendations for funding to the Provost/Academic Vice
President who then communicates the approval of awards to the Chair. The
funding is managed through the office of the Chief Academic Officer. This
committee is staffed each year by a faculty Chair, one faculty representative
each from natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, management division,
and an at-large faculty member. It also includes one student member nominated
by the Student Senate President. In order to retain continuity this seven
member committee replaces no more than four members (including the student) in
a given year.
The intent of the granting program is educational, to serve as model for
scholarly educational and granting processes in the future, as well as to
support student scholarly endeavors at Le Moyne. The granting process is
becoming increasingly competetive as student scholarship at Le Moyne grows.
Application is not a gaurantee of funding. Quality of both the proposal and
the proposed scholarly project are strong determinants of success.
