Your campus visit experience may be one of the most influential factors in your college selection process. Following are 10 tips for making the most of your experience.
- Always call ahead to ask about visit opportunities, including interviews, classroom or overnight visits and open houses.
- If you’re unfamiliar with the area, request a copy of directions to campus.
- Schedule an appointment for an interview. If you’d like to meet with a coach or professor, inform the Admission Office counselors so they can advise you in making those arrangements.
- Dress appropriately but comfortably for your interview.
- Research the college, and be prepared to ask questions of your own during the interview. Remember: You want to find out whether the college is a good fit for you.
- Arrive on time.
- Pick up campus literature during your visit – the college newspaper, college catalog or financial aid brochures, for instance.
- Arrange to eat in one of the campus dining halls.
- Take a student-led tour, and then explore the campus on your own. Ask your tour guide and other current students about their experiences.
- Before leaving, take some time to explore the surrounding community.
