2012-2013 Events

September 10th: Communications & Powerpoint

Please join us Monday, September 10, in the Reilley Room, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. as Adjunct Professor of Communications, Leslie Streissguth offers information on how to properly communicate your message to an audience using PowerPoint.

“Make slides that reinforce your words, not repeat them”.  Seth Godin, PowerPoint guru

“When I was 14 -years-old, I made this PowerPoint presentation, and I invited my parents into my room and gave them popcorn. It was called ‘Project Hollywood 2004’ and it worked. I moved to L.A. in January of 2004.”   Emma Stone

That being said, what does he (Seth Godin) really mean? And, if we create good PowerPoints, will we become famous and glamorous Hollywood idols like Emma Stone?  Let’s find out together in a mini course that looks at PowerPoint and all that it can do for our ideas, and MAYBE our future plans!

April 11: Generations at Work: Dispelling Myths

Since the days when Socrates was inciting the nation’s youth, elders have looked at juniors with curiosity and concern, and juniors have returned the favor.  Whether in our speech, our business methods or our technology, new generations have all changed the workplace, and history will likely show it was for the better...but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was without incidents!

Join Dr. Renée Downey Hart from the Madden School of Business as she invites you to explore this dynamic topic with pages from your own playbook, new research, humor, and tangible ideas to navigate these interesting times. Thursday, April 11th 12:15-1:15pm.

Renée Downey Hart, PhD is an Assistant Professor in Madden School of Business at  Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.  Prior to joining the faculty four years ago, she was a partner in the firm of Eagle Consultants in Syracuse, an international organizational development firm based in Syracuse.  She has been praised for her interactive style and ability to bring research into reality.  Her years of consulting from the Silicon Valley to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt (and parenting four children) offer her wonderful vantage points from which to explore this exciting topic.
