Letter from President Pestello

Le Moyne College has had an extraordinary year, from our truly transformative $50 million McDevitt Gift in the Fall of 2008 through our campus-wide OneLeMoyne strategic visioning process, accreditation by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), $4 million donation from an anonymous alumni, and recently announced inclusion in the Princeton Review’s 2010 Best Northeastern Colleges. International connections forged this summer are highlighted in the ‘Going Global’ series, and new accomplishments mark each day: faculty scholarship and new academic programs, the selection of Jeanette Epps (’92) for NASA’s 2009 astronaut class, and our success in winning important external funds such as a National Science Foundation for major equipment, a transatlantic grant supporting literacy work, and a federal grant that will support our preparation of nurse educators. In Fall 2009, we welcomed the largest freshman class in our history; in a special reminder of our heritage, we are honored to be among those institutions of higher education welcoming returning Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans under the post-9/11 GI Bill. The Le Moyne College Dolphins' recent upset of the nationally ranked Syracuse University Orangemen in men's basketball became yet another occasion to reflect upon the character and values we cherish on this campus.

[Le Moyne Athletic Fields, Oct. 24, 2009]

In recent months we also broke ground on a new turf field, refreshed the Reilly courtyard and the brick work on Mitchell Hall, and updated student town houses, Athletic Center roof, and women’s locker rooms. We're improving two of our most important gathering points: Grewen Auditorium and the Reilley Room, designing a new science complex, revising our Core curriculum, and implementing initiatives in the area of environmental sustainability.

As a community, we thrive upon being together, working and learning from each other, always seeking new ways to affirm and continue our Catholic, Jesuit mission. I look forward to continued success and to a wonderful semester!

Dr. Fred P. Pestello
President
