Education - Graduate

Dynamic, Inspirational and Forward-Thinking

Educators shape lives. Le Moyne shapes educators. With classes led by outstanding, experienced educators, an abundance of opportunities to gain hands-on experience in urban, rural and suburban classrooms, and a deep commitment to the Jesuit ideal of service, Le Moyne’s graduate program in education is widely recognized as one of the best in the Northeast. Educators and school administrators trained at Le Moyne are known for their tremendous skill and professionalism, of course. But more importantly, they are widely recognized for their desire to serve their schools and, by extension, their communities. They put tremendous thought and care not just into what they are doing, but why, and that distinction makes them among the most sought-after educators, not only locally, but nationally.

ADD MORE

Teaching adults requires more than a classroom, lesson plan and assignments for assessing progress. Adult students bring with them life experiences, workplace case studies and other traditional educational activities that raise the bar in today’s classroom. Professors and trainers need to learn and utilize strategies for delivering their own material while incorporating the knowledge of those whom they are teaching to enhance the learning experience.

The course work will provide the foundational knowledge of adult learning theories and styles, elements of program development and delivery formats, policies and trends for those who manage and oversee adult education programs, and critical and contemporary issues in adult education.

The Certificate and Requirements
Four classes are required to complete the certificate program. Le Moyne does a unique job of combining campus-based classroom instruction with synchronous and asynchronous delivery to meet the needs of local students wanting a face-to-face interaction and those learners at a distance. Courses are offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Traditional lectures, case studies and group and individual projects are part of the learning experience.

Who Should Enroll?
This graduate-level certificate in adult education is designed for those who want to work, or who are already working, with an adult population in an educator or trainer role in a variety of settings including businesses and corporations, health care, nonprofit organizations, communication organizations, adult literacy education and higher education.
