Dr. Susan Scharoun received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Syracuse University. While at Syracuse University, she received a National Institute of Mental Health training grant to travel to Taiwan to study neuroanatomical tracing techniques at the National Defense Medical School in Taipei.  After graduation, Dr. Scharoun completed a National Science Foundation post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical School in Brain Research, focusing neurogenerative diseases. Before coming to Le Moyne, she was an Associate Psychologist and Treatment Team Leader for the NYS Office of People with a Disability. She is on the Board of Directors for ARC of Onondaga, and is a consultant psychologist for Toomey Residential and Community Services, and Menorah Park. She has developed and delivered webinars on various topics related to disability for the NYS Alliance for Inclusive Innovation. Her research and applied interests include Positive Behavior Support in Treating Challenging Behaviors, Autism and Dual Diagnoses. She is the recipient of the Le Moyne College’s Beatrice Robinson, Ph.D., Advisor of the Year award and the 2020 ARC of Onondaga’s Mary Carol and Robert J. Fisher Founders Award. Dr. Scharoun teaches courses in Childhood Disorders, Motivation and Emotion, Human Lifespan Development, Health Psychology and Personality Theory.
