Le Moyne College

Meet one of our MLK Scholarship students…

Karla M. Torres ’09
Psychology Major

"Every now and then, I look back over my wonderful years spent at Le Moyne College thus far. I have met amazing individuals, have enjoyed my college years, but most importantly, I have a received a Jesuit education that has successfully educated me as a whole person. This, however, would not have been possible if it were not for Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship that I was granted.

My mother, a single parent to two daughters, has always valued education. But due to the high cost of higher education, affording to attend college after high school became a challenge. When I received this scholarship it not only allowed me to attend college, but also opened the door to many other opportunities.

In May 2009, I will be graduating and leaving the institution that I have called “home” for four years.  The thought of moving along to the next stage of my life sometimes becomes overwhelming, but I am confident that I will succeed in whatever I do because I have a background that has prepared me well. I will forever be proud to be a Dolphin and thankful to the scholarship that made it possible!"

Faculty Staff Giving

Faculty and staff give back to our students in numerous ways. They can choose to give directly through a payroll deduction, or give to specific scholarships or funds that directly benefit Le Moyne students.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship

The MLK Scholarship Fund was established nearly 40 years ago to support our College’s efforts to recruit and retain outstanding students of diverse cultural backgrounds by helping to alleviate some of the financial pressures they face paying for their education. It provides small grants (typically around $1,000 per year) to supplement the financial aid given to selected students who attend Le Moyne.
