Biography

About me: I began my journey in public health and medicine at Providence College. I eventually transferred back home to SUNY Cortland and graduated with a BS in Health Science.  Not really knowing what I wanted to do but knew I liked public health, went straight to graduate school at the University of South Florida. I finished my  Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Administration and then thought I needed to add a clinical degree to complete the circle of public health.  I finished my Associate's degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing (Syracuse) in 1996.  It was at this time I began teaching part-time at SUNY Cortland in the Health Department.  In the next 3 years, my position evolved into a full-time professor position and taught in the Health Department for 9 years and in the Biology Department for 4.  I was recommended to complete a doctorate during my time at SUNY Cortland so, I pursued and completed my Doctorate in Health Science at Nova Southeastern University.  This program perfectly merged my public health and clinical backgrounds.

In 2007,  my parents both needed open heart surgery within 3 days of each other at my alma mater, St. Joe's. It was during this time that I decided that I wanted to further my clinical skills and began the FNP program at SUNY Upstate.  I graduated in 2011 and briefly worked at Tully Hill Rehabilitation Center. My next position was with SUNY Upstate Hematology/Oncology and outpatient care. I also began working per diem for Cayuga Medical for their Emergency Department in their Urgent Care facilities.  I occasionally worked in the Emergency Department but now only their Urgent Care clinics.  I stayed with SUNY Upstate until 2014 and then took a position with Syracuse University as a full time professor in their public health department.  I continue to work in Urgent Care as well as teach full-time for SU.

I began teaching for Lemoyne in the summer of 2015.  I was approached by Beth Mercer, Dr. Jannetti, and Mary Springston to teach students the basics of public health and how clinical medicine intersects with it.

My areas of interest are global health, the ethics of medical missions, and the need for global governance, public health in clinical education, and the movement toward "one health" as a healthcare model.

Through my academic and professional journey, I have had the honor and joy to get married and have 4 wonderful children.  I am sure that my husband is a saint because he has always been supportive of every twist and turn I made.

On a personal note, my favorite place to be is outside.  I am an avid skier, biker, runner, hiker, etc.  Also, I am an amateur Beekeeper.
