Commitment to Service

Le Moyne student at MANOS

Office of Service Learning

The Office of Service Learning seeks to promote the development of both curricular and co-curricular service learning opportunities based on a reciprocal relationship with primarily not-for-profit agencies in and around Syracuse.

Through its various programs, courses, and in-service opportunities, this office encourages Le Moyne College students, faculty, staff and administrators to be responsible and engaged citizens who demonstrate the Ignatian ideals of service, academic excellence, and concern for the whole person.

Creating Strong Partnerships

Through service-learning, community partners assist Le Moyne College in its Jesuit mission: "to prepare its members for leadership and service in their personal and professional lives to promote a more just society."

  • Our Annual Report (pdf), celebrates the accomplishments of the 634 students in 39 service-learning courses who served over 10,416  hours at 86 sites in the greater Syracuse area. These students have gained invaluable experience and education thanks to our faculty and the generosity of our program partners, our community agencies.
  • Projects in the Community (P.I.C.) 1157 students volunteered 3,560  hours of service at 35 agencies in  "one-shot" opportunities.  100 students contributed 4629 hours of weekly service at 11 Syracuse agencies.
  • Le Moyne College work study students work with the professional staff at Catholic Charities Neighborhood sites and the People in Action Program to develop and supervise quality programming.
  • Dolphins in Volunteer Effort (D.I.V.E) First-year students participate in a service day the opening weekend of the academic year.  Typical activites include cleaning, landscaping, painting, and serving meals in agencies around the Syracuse area.  Students are accompanied by members of the College's faculty, administration, and staff.

Community partners are asked to:

  • supervise our students,
  • follow Le Moyne College volunteer guidelines,
  • for service-learning students, complete a short evaluation form to be sent to their professor.
Community partners are invited to submit project ideas to the address below.
