Le Moyne College Hosts Talk on Male Confessions

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will host a talk by Björn Krondorfer on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the Reilley Room, located in Reilly Hall. His talk is titled “Male Confessions: Intimate Revelations and the Religious Imagination.”

In his talk, Krondorfer will examine how men open their intimate lives and thoughts to the public through confessional writing, examining work by St. Augustine, a Jewish ghetto policeman, an imprisoned Nazi perpetrator and a gay American theologian – all reflecting sincere attempts at introspective and retrospective self-investigation, often triggered by some wounding or rupture and followed by a transformative experience.

Björn Krondorfer is professor of religious studies and former chair of the department of philosophy and religious studies at St. Mary's College of Maryland. His field of expertise is religion, culture and gender. His publications include “Male Confessions,” “Men and Masculinities in Christianity and Judaism,” “Remembrance and Reconciliation,” “Men's Bodies, Men's Gods” and “Body and Bible.” He is also the co-author and co-editor of three German volumes on the cultural and theological legacy of the Holocaust. Krondorfer has served as the co-chair of the Men’s Studies in Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion. He is also active internationally as facilitator and consultant of intercultural and religious groups. He holds a master’s degree and doctorate in religious studies from Temple University.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the gender and women’s studies program. For more information, email Ludger Viefhues-Bailey at viefhulh@lemoyne.edu or call (315) 445-4512.
