Two Local Catholic High School Students Receive First-Ever Simon Le Moyne Scholarships
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) ... Le Moyne has named the recipients of its inaugural Simon Le Moyne Scholarships: Tyler Santy, Bishop Grimes High School, who plans to study physics and chemistry at Le Moyne; and Paige Gordon, Christian Brothers Academy, who plans to double major in psychology and English.
The students have each been awarded a full tuition scholarship to Le Moyne College. They were selected from a number of students who participated in Le Moyne’s Loyola Institute over the past three years.
“We’re excited to be awarding these inaugural scholarships,” said Denny Nicholson, dean of admission at Le Moyne. “The Loyola Institute has proved to be an important initiative, attracting the very best and brightest students from our local Catholic schools.”
The Loyola Institute is a partnership with the three Catholic high schools in the Syracuse area. To successfully complete the program, students were required to complete one non-credit study skills course and four three-credit undergraduate courses at Le Moyne between the end of 9th grade and their high school graduation. In existence since 2009, there are currently more than 70 students in the program.
The other students in the 2012 cohort who have successfully completed the three-year institute program and are accepted for admission to Le Moyne College will receive a Syracuse Catholic Schools Scholarship, which is $11,000 per year.
