Le Moyne CSTEP Program Awarded Grant of $45,000 to Help Fund Fall Health and Science Fair
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … The Le Moyne College Collegiate Science Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the Corporation for National and Community service. Part of the funds will be used to host a health and science fair – open to all children and their families – taking place on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Syracuse Education Opportunity Center (SEOC), located at 100 New Street in Syracuse.
In addition to free food and a number of giveaways, the fair will feature a variety of activities, including science experiments for kids, free health and wellness services, and demonstrations of healthy cooking. Free services that will be offered include healthy weight screening, ear and eye screening, blood pressure screening, flu shot information, drug and alcohol addiction prevention information, exercise and stress relief demonstrations, and advice from medical and wellness professionals.
Among those presenting will be nursing and chemistry faculty, staff and students from Le Moyne College, and individuals from the SEOC, the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), and a number of local science and technology companies.
The fair is a partnership between Le Moyne CSTEP, SEOC, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Wegmans, Syracuse University Health Services, and other area CSTEP programs. The fair is part of Le Moyne’s CSTEP service learning curriculum.
About CSTEP at Le Moyne: The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a national award-winning program sponsored by Le Moyne College and the New York State Department of Education. It is an enrichment program designed to foster students’ academic success as they prepare for professional licensure or careers in the scientific, technical or health-related fields. The program provides a broad range of services including tutoring, academic counseling, skills development, enrichment activities, internship and research opportunities, graduate school/career preparation, specialized workshops, and field trips.
