Le Moyne College Named to Higher Ed Community Service Honor Roll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College was selected for the 2007 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. Only 127 colleges and universities nationwide were named to the honor roll with distinction, announced this week at the American Council on Education's (ACE) annual meeting in San Diego.

The honor roll with distinction recognizes colleges that have demonstrated leadership in helping to build a culture of service on campus and around the nation. It is the highest federal recognition an institution of higher education can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

”This tremendous honor is a reflection of the long-standing commitment, true to the Jesuit tenant of service to others, that Le Moyne College has demonstrated since its founding,” Le Moyne College Interim President John Smarrelli said. “Our commitment to service is not just words, but is incorporated into all aspects of the Le Moyne experience; academics, athletics, campus ministry and student organizations.”

The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps and the Presidents Council on Service and Civic Participation.
