Broadway Star Joins Le Moyne College Jazzuits at Jazz Central

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Former Baldwinsville resident Gina Lamparella returns to Central New York  to join the Le Moyne College Jazzuits under the direction of Carol Jacobe for a concert of Broadway jazz standards at Jazz Central on Sunday, October 19, at 4 p.m.

Lamparella grew up in Baldwinsville and graduated from the drama department at Syracuse University. She has appeared in six Broadway productions, including the 10th anniversary company of “Les Miserables,” “Jane Eyre,” “Imaginary Friends,” written by Nora Ephron and starring Swoozie Kurtz and Cherry Jones, “Gypsy,” starring Bernadette Peters, “Fiddler on the Roof” starring Alfred Molina and Rosie O'Donnell, and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” starring John Lithgow. Her television credits include “Guiding Light,” “As the World Turns,” and “All My Children.” Lamparella has also appeared in several concerts, benefits, and one-woman cabaret acts, including her show titled “Everything Might Be Different,” which she performed this past summer at Jazz Central.

The Le Moyne College Jazzuits is a vocal jazz ensemble of 16 voices and rhythm section. The group formed in 2004 under the direction of Carol Jacobe, former C. W. Baker High School choral director. Since that time the ensemble has performed at the New York State Music Teachers Conference and at numerous charitable fundraisers in the Syracuse area. The ensemble also had the opportunity to perform with Nancy Kelly, and this year they will work with local jazz artist, Ronnie Leigh. The Jazzuits also host an annual vocal jazz festival featuring ensembles from the Central New York area.

The October 19 concert will include solo performances by several members of the Jazzuits along with ensemble numbers by the group, but the highlight of the concert will be their performance with Gina Lamparella, who is a former student of Jacobe. At Baker High in Baldwinsville, Lamparella played the lead roles of Dolly in “Hello Dolly,” Tzeitel in “Fiddler on the Roof,” and Ado Annie in “Oklahoma!” She sang in Jacobe’s vocal jazz ensemble, “Silk & Satin,” at Baker High School. According to Jacobe, “This is a great opportunity for the Le Moyne students to work with a Broadway star and also have the opportunity to chat with Gina about her Broadway career.”

Tickets for this event will go sale on Monday, September 29. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly suggested. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students and can be reserved by calling 315 638-9485.
