Le Moyne College Awarded Grant from Louisville Institute
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … The Louisville Institute has awarded Le Moyne College a grant of $24,466 through its Project Grant for Researchers Program. The Louisville Institute is a Lilly Endowment-funded program based at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.posted on: 3/1/2010
According to Dr. Matthew Loveland, assistant professor of sociology, who co-authored the grant, it will fund a six-month case study of a Catholic parish, in Syracuse, created by the merger of two prior parishes. “Ideally,” Loveland says, “lessons learned from this case study will be of use to other parishes going through a similar process.”
Loveland and his co-investigator, Margaret Ksander, M.A., assistant professor of sociology at Onondaga Community College, will spend the six months conducting formal interviews, focus groups and a survey of parishioners. The study will consider whether there are changes in identity and commitment among Catholics affected by diocesan reconfiguration, and how parishes mange the merger process.
