The world needs more women in STEM.  At Le Moyne, the Stempower program provides mentorship and career support, so you can build your community in the science and math fields and increase your self-confidence.

Women in STEM at Home on the Heights

How can you prepare to become a successful, professional woman in STEM? Through Stempower, your new-found community and your mentor, you’ll find those answers.

Cohort One – Confidence & Community

Offered to First Years and Sophomores, this program begins by helping you build confidence and a sense of belonging in the world of STEM while fostering a supportive community. You’ll participate in five engaging sessions over the academic year on the following topics: Women in STEM careers, Confidence & Self-Promotion, Resiliency, Business Etiquette, and Global Mindset. The final meetup for all of Stempower is a Women in STEM Careers Panel.

Cohort Two – Find Your Career Path

Offered to Sophomores, you'll discover how to combine your studies with your interests to establish a career direction. Like the Cohort One, you'll participate in five engaging sessions over the academic year on the following topics: Prepare for the Career Fair, Networking, Motivating Career Options, Make the Most of Your Internship + Grad School Options, and Seat at the Table. The final meetup for all of Stempower is a Women in STEM Careers Panel.

Mentoring Opportunities – Juniors & Seniors

Continue your professional readiness while mentoring one or two first-year or sophomore women in your major. While giving back and sharing your knowledge, you’ll discover the benefits of mentoring including development of leadership and management qualities, increase of motivation and resume enhancement, among other things. Mentors participate in STEM Career Readiness sessions, company engagements, and social meetups.

Stempower women are engaging in research, getting accepted to graduate schools and finding positions with such companies as: Anheuser-Busch, Bausch & Lomb, Corning, EPA, Equitable, Excellus BCBS, GM, IBM, Ichor Life Sciences, Knowles Precision Devices, Lockheed Martin, McAdams Civil Engineering, MetLife, NBCUniversal, Rich Products Corp, and SIDEARM Sports.

The meetings were always very uplifting, and they helped to validate and overcome many fears and concerns that I hold as a woman in STEM. It was great to have a program geared specifically towards women, as our experience and challenges in the workforce are different.

Stempower FAQs

Stempower is designed for women students in STEM majors or minors, however the program is open to all  students at Le Moyne.

Stempower is in place to help you navigate those decisions and connect you to our resources that will help you understand your options.  You are welcome to stay with Stempower if you change your major.

Minimum requirement for participants is to attend two of the three sessions per semester. We strongly encourage attendance at all sessions.

One of the benefits of Stempower is being paired with a mentor in your major. We ask you engage and interact with your mentor:

  • Respond to emails & texts
  • Ask questions about courses
  • Get advice on navigating Le Moyne
  • Talk about life in general

We also ask that you keep your mentor informed of significant events (examples include challenges in class, success in your work or changing your major/minor).

  • Meet with your mentees at least once a month. You can meet with both mentees at the same time, but we encourage you to meet individually with your mentees at least twice a semester.
  • Be available via email or text with a 24-hour response window except on weekends.
  • Attend a campus event with your mentees.
  • Share your experience about the program, courses, etc (e.g., what to expect in the semesters/years ahead).
  • Adapt your support to the needs of your mentees, which may depend on academic, social, national and other backgrounds and prior experience.
  • Support your mentees with developing on-campus connections (introduce them to student organizations, volunteer opportunities, and other students in your major)
  • Check in on your mentee’s morale and academic progress/goals
  • Log interactions with your mentee
  • Attend at least 2 Junior / Senior Career Readiness Engagement Sessions
  • Complete a brief Summer of ’25 Success Plan
