Move In Tips

Starting college is an exciting experience. Making the shift to college dorms for the first time is an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with campus life. Moving into a dorm and sharing a room with a new person might be overwhelming, but here are some pointers to help you settle in and adjust to your new room at Le Moyne College.

Before you begin packing, I recommend that you make a list of everything you will need. This will assist you in staying organized and on top of the things you require. Also, start reading Le Moyne’s dorm policies to discover what you can and cannot bring. Certain appliances, such as hot plates, are prohibited.

Keep in mind that you are sharing a room with another individual. Because space is limited, pack as lightly as possible. Bring only the necessities, such as bedding, toiletries, and seasonal clothing. You can always acquire additional things once you’ve gotten acquainted with your new room. Remember to bring a pair of shower shoes!

To know where everything is, labeling your items will make it easier for you to unpack once you get to the dorm. This will save you time and stress!

If you know who your roommate is and have their contact information, make sure you connect with them before you arrive! This will save you and your roommate from bringing duplicates of everything, including a mini-fridge and even a microwave! If you want to decorate in a similar manner, you may also talk about what color and theme to use. If you are still looking for a roommate, remember to sign up for Le Moyne’s Zeemee channel for committed students . This app is perfect for connecting with your peers and potential roommate!

Keep in mind that you have limited space and restrictions when designing your room. Instead of nails and screws, think about using adhesive command strips and hooks. Also, bring any soft furniture, such as a rug or additional pillows, to make your room feel like a home away from home!

It is important before you move in to understand all important information about your dorm residence. This includes visitor restrictions, quiet hours, the location of laundry machines, and even roommate agreements. Knowing the regulations will help you avoid future conflicts and misunderstandings.

When you move into your dorm hall, you will most likely be introduced to your Resident Advisor (RA). Remember, this is the person you should contact if anything goes wrong during your time on campus. They can assist you with getting acquainted with dorm living and even campus life by answering any questions you may have.

Keep in mind that these following tips are only suggestions to help your transition stress free and more enjoyable. Remember, your dorm room is your home away from home. Feel free to make it comfortable and personalize your space to your liking. Good luck with your move-in and enjoy your time at Le Moyne college, filled with endless possibilities.

Our Phins don’t swim alone much like they don’t swim alone in the wild. Wherever you are on campus, there will always be a smiling face looking at you. Even someone who you know is in your class but maybe have not talked to will smile and say hello. There is always someone around to hang out with and familiar faces everywhere to remind you how close knit you will become.”

Why a Dolphin?

Did you realize that dolphins are actually similar to us? They are amicable and lovable, and studies prove that dolphins are one of the most clever creatures on earth!

Iggy at a Basketball Game

More than a Mascot

Our Dolphin (named Iggy!) establishes a positive environment for students to have a sense of belonging on campus. Representing “love and tenderness,” Iggy reminds us to be “friendly toward man” and to ensure no one is ever left behind. As college students, we often forget that college isn't all about submitting our assignment by 11:59 pm. Our mascot reminds us to have a good time and make every second count, and encourages all to branch out and meet new people. You can never expect what he will be up to next, but you can guarantee he’ll put a huge smile on all of our faces.

Iggy at Family Weekend

Our time in school is also about creating memories with others that we will forever cherish

His energy is always UNMATCHED, whether greeting students, taking selfies, or even bursting out some amazing dance moves. Iggy’s outgoing personality is always accompanied with a high five and hugs.
