The creative writing program at Le Moyne will inspire you to follow your passion and discover the writer within. Practice and refine your craft and test your boundaries by experimenting with different genres. Learn about fiction, nonfiction, poetry and scripts in intimate workshops with mentors and peers who will support and inspire you. Attend poetry readings and meet award-winning visiting authors and playwrights.

Storytellers Unite on the Heights

At Le Moyne, creative writing can be a concentration within an English major or as a standalone minor paired with any major. It can prepare you for MFA and other graduate programs and a wide range of professional pursuits.

The Creative Writing Minor

If you're a non-English major interested in a minor in creative writing, consult the director of the Creative Writing Program. The usual requirements for a minor are 15 hours in creative writing, but qualifications are determined on an individual basis.

Undergraduate English Major

The Department of English offers two concentrations of study: literature and creative writing. Both of these courses of study are committed to the discovery of meaning and value in language.

Undergraduate English Dual Major

The Le Moyne English department also offers dual majors in communications and theatre. Each of these programs would also include a concentration – in either literature or creative writing.

A Five-Year Teaching Pathway

Students interested in teaching English can also explore the five-year pathway to a B.A. and master’s degree. An English degree is conferred at the end of the spring semester in the fourth year of study, and the respective MST program degree to which you applied is conferred at the end of the fifth year of study.

Additional English Minors

The English department offers several additional interdisciplinary courses that can earn you a minor. Consult the department chair for more information.

As a writer, I am endlessly fascinated by the examination and portrayal of all sorts of different people through various media. In the consumption of media, audiences must always be wary of taking the information at face value.”
