The Future of Mental Health on the Heights

Two years. 60 credit hours. 700 hours of clinical experience. You’ll be in the field in no time.

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Degree

This program allows you to complete 60 credit hours of coursework within two years. Classes are held in the late afternoon and early evening to support working professionals. All summer and winter classes are held online. Small cohorts of 15 students move collectively through the coursework as a community. You’ll complete 700 hours of clinical experience, which includes three practicum credits and 12 internship credits to meet the requirements and licensure standards for New York State.

CMHC Courses

Our curriculum explores values, perceptions, cultures, techniques and interventions for the prevention and treatment of a broad range of mental health issues and explores behaviors of clients from a variety of backgrounds and developmental stages.

CMHC Admissions

Admission is open to students with a bachelor’s degree completed (or scheduled to be complete by the time our program begins). Although any major is welcome, we see most applicants from majors in human services, psychology, counseling or related fields. Applicants are required to successfully complete prerequisite courses in introductory psychology, introductory counseling, abnormal psychology and research methods by the start of the program.

It should be noted that licensure in New York includes a background check. The licensure requirements can be found at: http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/mhp/mhclic.htm. Each student will be responsible for applying for licensure upon completion of the degree.

The M.S. Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Le Moyne College holds Diagnostic Privilege Designation. Once licensed, graduates of this program will have the appropriate diagnostic education to quality for their own Diagnostic Privilege permit.

I always wanted to be a counselor, and Le Moyne’s CMHC program made that dream a reality. I had to work full-time while in school, and I lived an hour away, but this program always made education accessible to me. I’m so grateful I found this program, its faculty and its fellow participants.”
