Why an Occupational Therapy Graduate Degree From Le Moyne?

From seniors to young kids, occupational therapy helps millions of people get through their days. As an occupational therapist (OT), you witness the growth and change in your clients, old and young. From fall prevention to fine motor skill development, OTs make real, life-changing differences in their clients’ lives every single day.

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (OT) graduate degree program at Le Moyne is rated one of the Best Entry-Level OT Programs in the North due to our exceptional student outcomes, interdisciplinary faculty and small student/faculty ratio.

As a professional, entry-level degree, it’s perfect for those who’ve earned a baccalaureate degree in a field other than OT. Our curriculum provides an excellent foundation for you if you’re hoping for an OT practitioner career in a traditional setting or in an area of newly identified need.

State-of-the-Art OTs Come From a State-of-the-Art Program

With a home base in downtown Syracuse, our OTs are immersed in our community's needs and hopes for better mobility.

The OT Master’s Program

Le Moyne’s OT program is completed in a cohort format over 24 months. All courses are sequential, and the first summer semester is fully online. Two fieldwork opportunities take place over 12 weeks during the second year. Our curriculum provides you the opportunity to immediately apply relevant didactic information to clinical settings by embedding fieldwork experiences within and immediately following didactic coursework. Competitive candidates can qualify for significant assistance to support their studies. No additional application is required.

OT Fieldwork

You’ll have two types of formal fieldwork experiences: Level I and Level II. Level I fieldwork experiences are held locally, as they are part of the didactic semesters. Level II fieldwork experiences are full-time, 12-week supervised clinical experiences in which the emphasis is on the application of the academically acquired body of knowledge.

State-of-the-Art Facility

Our downtown Syracuse facility allows you to put your learning directly into practice. The space includes: a daily living lab, kitchen and bathroom for simulation exercises, a fully equipped sensory room, access to a fully equipped cadaver lab.

OT Courses

Our curriculum design first exposes you to the ideas of the person as a client, their occupations and the context in which those occupations occur. Over semesters, you learn to overlay the curricular threads – leadership and communication, global perspective and knowledge, creativity and innovation and interdisciplinary learning. Check out the most recent curricular sequence. We have a consistently high pass rate on the NBCOT exam.

Our faculty have been in the OT field for decades. From hospitals to private practice, they’ve worked in a range of settings and continue to bring diverse experiences to the classroom.

Certification / Licensure

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure to practice; however, states’ licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. Note: A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT Certification Examination or attain state licensure.

As an inclusive profession, occupational therapy maximizes health, well-being, and quality of life for all people, populations, and communities through effective solutions that facilitate participation in everyday living.”

The OT Program at Le Moyne is the embodiment of the Jesuit values focusing on each person as a whole; all their actions, needs, desires… all their intricate parts. Becoming an Occupational Therapist through Le Moyne was an obvious choice for me. The values Le Moyne stands for will stick with me throughout my career as an occupational therapist, and that is the type of OT I want to be.”
