Mary Zampini, Ph.D.

Mary Zampini has a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics from Georgetown University and is a Professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, where she teaches courses in Spanish and linguistics. She also serves as a co-chair of the Le Moyne College Institutional Review Board. She has received extensive training on oral proficiency testing through the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and was a fully certified tester for the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in Spanish for eight years. Her research interests include second language Spanish and bilingual speech perception and production, as well as issues related to the intelligibility of World Englishes. She is co-editor of Phonology and Second Language Acquisition published by John Benjamins Press in 2008. Dr. Zampini was awarded the Rev. Msgr. A. Robert Casey Teacher of the Year Award at Le Moyne College in 2011 and the Rev. Robert E. O’Brien S.J. Service Award in 2018.
