Congratulations, you made it!

If you haven’t heard it yet, I am so proud of you for taking charge, and making this big step to start your journey at Le Moyne College.

You’ve come this far; now take a breather and let me give you some pointers to help you transition into college in the fall.

As an incoming freshman, you must establish the tone for your college experience. Remember that it is never too early to prepare, for success begins with planning.

Here are some things you can start working on right away before you get on campus:

  1. Get organized
Your best friend will be organization! Put everything in order in your planner to avoid feeling overwhelmed! From important dates to spending time with your pals…  Whatever method you choose, keep  track of everything. Set up a routine that works for you and keeps your priorities in order.
  2. Plan a visit and tour campus
The summer is an excellent time to settle into your new surroundings and get comfortable with campus life and resources. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions and become acquainted before the first day of classes.
  3. Become familiar with student resources
You set the tone for how easy and successful your first year of college will be. That being said, get familiar with all of the resources available to you at Le Moyne. Explore internship and work study possibilities, clubs and extracurricular activities, and get to know your instructors and staff.
  4. Set a budget
You will want to do everything your first year in college. Set a budget to ensure you can do what you want with your buddies. Take the time to manage your finances, create a budget, and begin saving money for the school year today! You will appreciate it.
  5. Choose your classes
Spend some time familiarizing yourself with your major course requirements in the catalog to prepare for registration with your advisor. This will help you be prepared for finding classes that’ll help you stay on track for your career goals and interests.
  6. Make a packing list for your dorm (If staying on campus)
Start buying little things over the summer to help you prepare to move in. Remember, do not overpack and maximize your space,  you will be sharing a room! Download our packing list
  7. Develop healthy habits
Setting up good routines and habits will help you manage your stress and stay on top of your academics. Never forget to look after your mental health to be the best student you can be. Olivia Snell ‘23 says “ Recognizing the days when you need to take extra time for yourself does not make you weak – it makes you stronger, resilient, and allows you to be ready for the next challenges at hand”

Preparing for college this summer doesn’t have to be overwhelming, just keep in mind these 7 tips to help you along the way.
