Why Study Graduate Nursing at Le Moyne College?

Nursing Class

We balance theory with practice for our students and faculty! Our faculty are all practice-experienced and maintain roles as educators, administrators, and nurse practitioners, so that we are current, competent, and credible. Outside of the classroom, students benefit from immersive preceptorships in a variety of settings with diverse patient populations.

We’ll know you by name. We accept a select number of students into each program so you are never just a number. You'll thrive in our traditional classroom settings with smaller class sizes, real-time face to face encounters, and professors who enjoy teaching and mentoring.

About Our Programs
Nursing Student in Class

Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are uniquely skilled primary care providers who work collaboratively to meet the health care needs of diverse individuals and families across the lifespan, in a variety of practice settings. Graduates of Le Moyne’s FNP program are trained as competent and compassionate clinicians who provide excellent community-based primary care to diverse, under-served, and vulnerable populations.

Students who have a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing and hold a valid NYS RN license are encouraged to take advantage of our FNP Conditional Admission option. Here, you will apply to the FNP program and interview as any other FNP candidate would. If accepted, you will be required to complete some prerequisite coursework. Upon successful completion of those courses you will have earned a spot in the FNP program.

The committee will review your transcripts to see how many prerequisites may be required before you begin the FNP curriculum. There are a maximum of six prerequisites (completed through Le Moyne) required. A personalized assessment of your coursework will be done after the admission interview to assist in your planning. Students may be waived out of certain prerequisites from this list based on their previous college coursework:

Maximum Required Prerequisites:

  • Statistics (MTH 110)
  • Research in Nursing (NSG 350)
  • Health Assessment (NSG 315)
  • Pathophysiology (BSC 345)
  • Management/Leadership in Nursing (NSG 410)
  • Community Health (NSG 440)
