Research and Scholarly Interests:

Area of Research: Gene Expression, Genetics, Genomics, Aging
My research group explores two broad areas of study: gene expression - the many regulatory mechanisms that underlie this process - and the molecular underpinnings of the aging process. Our model system is the model eukaryote, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (commonly known as baker’s or brewer’s yeast). Of interest are questions that include: how does the cell coordinately express large sets of genes to adapt to its niche and maintain homeostasis and survival? How does the breakdown of cellular processes – such as nuclear morphology or mitochondrial function alter and affect lifespan?

Students in my lab use a combination of genetics, computational and bioinformatic approaches, as well as a diverse repertoire of molecular biological approaches and techniques to answer these questions and more! If you have an interest in learning more about my research – or have a desire to work on a project in my lab – reach out to me by email anytime!
