Caryn Patterson is a graduate of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and master’s degree in music theory. Patterson has been
an educator for 35 years and has taught in the Westhill, Syracuse City and North Syracuse Central school districts. As keyboardist and vocalist with the band TRYX, she co-wrote the SAMMY People’s Choice Award for their album Love and Lies. Patterson served as music director with Theatre 90, where she had the opportunity to direct the local children’s choir for the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Her high school choruses and vocal jazz ensembles consistently placed in the top three choirs at the Worldstrides Music Festivals in New York City, including the Adjudicator’s Award for Outstanding Performance, and were recently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the National Youth Choir Festival. As director of music for the Cicero-North Syracuse High School musicals, Patterson has overseen productions that have won numerous Syracuse Area Theater Awards for Youth (SALTY’s) and Syracuse High School Theater Awards (SHSTA’s); including Outstanding Music Direction and Best Overall Production. Her students have gone on to careers as professional opera singers, musical theater actor/singers, professional musicians, film and television actors and music educators.
