    The Famous Friendship of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony

    Carol Faulkner, professor of history at Syracuse University will present “The Famous Friendship of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony.” Dr. Faulkner will explore the racism of the women's rights movement (including Anthony), but also how and why the friendship between Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony continued.She will also discuss the politics of commemorating the 19th amendment anniversary and the 2020 election.

    This talk is part of Women’s History Month 2021: Women and Elections! In 1920, the United States ratified the 19th Amendment, which stated that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” And in November 2020, the United States elected its first female Vice President, Kamala Harris! Women’s History Month 2021 will celebrate these landmarks inAmerican history.
