    The Direct Entry Physician Assistant (P.A.) Studies Program at Le Moyne College was developed to offer the opportunity for early  provisional acceptance to exceptional high school students wishing to accelerate their academic and career paths to become  physician assistants. Application for the program is made during the senior year of high school. Accepted applicants go on to  complete a five-year (3+2) Bachelor of Science program in biological sciences/Master of Science program in physician assistant  studies at Le Moyne College. The program is competitive and space is limited. This direct entry admission option to the P.A.  program is available only to first-year students.

    Eligibility Requirements for Admission into the Direct Entry Program

    • Minimum high school cumulative average of 92
    • Minimum 1200 SAT score (Critical Reading and Math only) or minimum 27 ACT Score
    • Required High School Courses - Applicants must graduate from an accredited high school and must complete a minimum of 16 academic units in the following distribution:
      English - Four
      Foreign Language - Three
      Mathematics - Three to Four
      Natural Science - Three to Four
      Social Studies - Three to Four
    • Recommendations: Applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation from a guidance or college counselor; or two letters of recommendation from clergy, coaches, employers, teachers, etc.; and one recommendation from a supervisor who can attest to the applicant's demonstrated commitment to the health care field.
    • 50 hours of patient contact documented by a supervisor
    • Required interview by invitation only; invitations will be extended by Feb. 1. The final decision regarding admission to the direct entry program will be made by the P.A. Program Admission Committee.
    Applying to the Direct Entry Program

    The application and all required documents must be received by the Le Moyne College Office of Admission before the application deadline. The deadline for receipt of applications is February 1. A completed application packet includes:

    • A completed freshman application with the required application fee
    • Official high school transcript
    • Guidance/college counselor recommendation or two letters of recommendation from clergy, coaches, employers, teachers, etc.
    • Official SAT or ACT scores or official TOEFL scores (required of non-native English speakers)
    • Personal statement

    After beginning study as a first-year student in the direct entry P.A. program at Le Moyne College, students have a binding agreement with the institution and program and may not apply to other P.A. programs.

    Continuation in the Program

    Students must attain or exceed an overall grade-point average of 3.3. Two successive semesters below 3.3 or a cumulative grade-point average below 3.3 will constitute grounds for dismissal from the program.

    Academic Prerequisites

    Participants must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in biological sciences and must complete the required courses by August 1 of their fourth year of enrollment at Le Moyne College.

    Patient Contact Experience

    Participants must complete a minimum of 750 direct patient contact hours prior to August 15 of their fourth year of enrollment at Le Moyne College. The appropriate value of the 50 hours experienced prior to first semester studies will be included in the 750 hours that are required.

    Moral and Ethical Fitness

    During all phases of the program, a student must remain in good moral and ethical standing appropriate to the pursuit of a career as a physician assistant and eventual licensure. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program.
