College Plans Wellness Day on April 20

Due to COVID, Dolphy Day 2021 will not take place

In response to a request from the Student Government Association, and with the support of the faculty senate and senior administration, the College has designated Tuesday, April 20, as a wellness day. On that day undergraduate classes will not be held, no assignments will be due and no other academic activities will be scheduled.

To make up for classes that will be cancelled that day, classes will now be held on Tuesday, May 18. Study Day will be preserved and held on Wednesday, May 19, and final exams will be given on Thursday, May 20, Friday, May 21, Saturday, May 22, Monday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 25. More information about how this will impact graduate classes and exams will be forthcoming.

In light of ongoing concerns raised by the pandemic, including the recent increase in COVID-19 cases on campus, the introduction of new variants and county and state restrictions, Dolphy Day 2021 will not take place.

Student Development is working on a series of activities as part of a spring celebration which will take place the weekend of April 24. We are currently planning for a tremendous weekend of fun, relaxation, and community interaction.  Current plans include music, food trucks, competitions and prizes.  Information about this celebration will be sent to students well ahead of the event.

"We recognize how many challenges students have faced over the past year in virtually every aspect of their lives," said Anne Kearney, interim associate provost for student development. "Given the nature of Dolphy Day, with large numbers of people in a relatively small area and the various activities that traditionally take place on that day, we simply would not be able to maintain the careful attention we have all taken in regards to health and safety protocols. We are looking forward to this spring celebration and being together with our Dolphin family.”
