The National Women’s Studies Association has committed itself to leading the field of women’s studies in education and social transformation. It has also dedicated itself to showcasing scholarship in the field, as Le Moyne’s Alyssa Kizer ’23, Amelia Duffy ’24 and Ayeh Hajjari ’24 recently discovered when they attended the association’s annual conference in Minneapolis, Minn. The undergraduates were accompanied faculty members Farha Ternikar, Ph.D., and Norrell Edwards, Ph.D.

When Lindsey Bush ’23 sees a column outside of a building she’s about to enter, she can’t help but wonder: Is that column structural or simply decorative? Bush, who is studying physics on the Heights, is an aspiring civil engineer. She recently completed an internship with Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis Engineering & Surveying, where she put her education to use doing calculations, fieldwork and drawings for multiple projects.

Of all of the lessons Declan Braun ’23 has learned at Le Moyne, perhaps the most valuable is this: to be open to new possibilities. When Braun first arrived on the Heights, he planned to become an orthodontist. However, the Camillus, N.Y., native soon found himself drawn away from that field and toward the complexities of the financial markets. He changed his major from biology to finance. That was the start of what he now calls “a three-year-long journey of learning."

Phillip Reutter ’23 took a shot when he applied to the Research Experience for Undergraduates Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. It landed. Reutter, a physics major and math minor, spent the summer studying metacognition, the reflective portion of a person's planning process. It was a tremendous opportunity for the aspiring educator who one day hopes to lead a school district as superintendent.

Ashley Green ’23 has been a fan of NBC’s Saturday Night Live for as long as she can remember, so much so that, when Green was in the process of looking for internships, she couldn’t help but think: “Now that would be a great place to work.” But with a background in criminology and cybersecurity, she wasn't sure if she's be a fit. Then she discovered that NBCUniversal, which is home to SNL, was looking for tech and media interns. It was truly great timing - comedic or otherwise.

Ayishata Menko ’24 is a management and leadership major who recently completed an internship with the national retailer CVS.

Kevin Mesta ’24 is a chemistry major who recently completed an internship through the Interactive Biomaterials REU Program at Syracuse University.
