Professor Asks: What if Orson Welles Played Shylock?

Professor Matt Chiorini's play "Orson Welles/Shylock" was staged at the "Shylock Project Summer School" in Venice, Italy, before Shakespeare and Judaica scholars and performers from around the world.

The play received a reading at the Columbia Festival of the Arts in Maryland in May 2015, and is featured on the Wellesnet website as one of the main Welles centenary events to be offered this year.

Chiorini was then joined in Venice by Le Moyne College students Andrew Gripe '16 and alumni Vincent Randazzo '15, Lexi Bedore '15, and Brandon Sisson '14. They performed as part of the conference as well as representing Le Moyne at some of the other lectures and events.

Chiorini later worked with students Brittany Fayle ('17), Carrie Bates ('17), Fred Pienkoski ('18) and Tom Vasquez ('17) to remount the successful production around New York state in Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton, and Franklin, as wekk as Fringe Theatre Festivals in Toronto and Montreal, where is was nominated for "Best English Language Production" in 2017.
