Mark Temnycky’s maternal and paternal grandparents moved to the United States from Ukraine in the early 1950s, just as McCarthyism and the Red Scare were taking root. Some 70 years later, the Le Moyne alumnus has made a career of writing about Eastern Europe and its place in the world for venerable publications such as The New York Times and Forbes and for institutions like the Atlantic Council, the Wilson Center and the Center for European Policy Analysis.

Michael Madden ’71 is the managing partner and co-founder of the private equity investment firm BlackEagle Partners. He is also among Le Moyne’s most dedicated and generous alumni.

Giavonni Lucas ’95 remembers the moment he found his voice on the Heights. It was in January of 1993 – the middle of his sophomore year.

Growing up, Matt Civilette was "always that kid who wanted to work for NASA. Then one day he found himself in a hospital room, visiting him grandmother and peppering every doctor, nurse and technician he met with questions. Something inside of him shifted - as did his plans. Today Civilette is in his final year of medical school at Georgetown University, planning for a future that will include not spacesuits and orbital telescopes, but scrubs and medical drills.

Bryan Tran ’21 believes teaching is more than a profession. It is “a craft and a form of art that requires the use of your whole heart.” Bryan first felt the tug to become an educator when he was 11 years old. He planned lessons in math, history, science and English for his sister, Aimee, then 5, in their family’s home in Endicott, N.Y. Now he is preparing to serve as an English teaching assistant in Vietnam through the Fulbright U.S. Student program.

Steve Laureti ’11 believes that in life it’s often the chances we didn’t take that we most regret. He is not afraid to push himself out of his comfort zone.

As a medical provider with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Medical Services, Monna is tasked with safeguarding the well-being of America’s diplomatic community. She is, in effect, a health care provider, a diplomat and a logistical expert all in one. There is nothing she would rather do, and no place she’d rather be than wherever she is most urgently needed.
