Douja Mamelouk, Ph.D.

Douja Mamelouk is an Associate Professor of Arabic and French at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Willamette University, her Master’s degree at the American University of Cairo and her Ph.D. at Georgetown University. Her latest article, “Ali al-Du‘aji and al-‘alam al-adabi: a voice of the Tunisian avant-garde under colonial rule (1930-1936),” appeared in the Journal of North African Studies (April 2016). She has published “New national discourses: Tunisian women write the revolution” in Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics (2015) and “When a Whisper Becomes a Scream: Tunisian Oral Culture in a Postcolonial Woman’s Novel” in the Journal of African Literature Association (2016). She is working on a monograph concerning the making of the modern Tunisian man in women’s texts.
