Why a Graduate Education Degree From Le Moyne?

Whether you are a New York State certified teacher looking to complete your master’s degree or a long-time teacher looking to revamp your career with a certificate of advanced study, Le Moyne is the place to do it.

On the Heights, you’ll find a renowned graduate education program where professors and students are agents of change working together toward a more inclusive world. Our roots in Jesuit tradition teach us that vocation should be inextricably tied to justice. You’ll learn how to best serve your students, and, in turn, create a more just world.

Graduate Education Meets Jesuit Ideals

Our graduate education academic programs offer a variety of degrees based on your interests and professional goals.

Initial Certification: The Master of Science for Teachers (MST)

If you want to teach but have only a completed baccalaureate degree and don’t have teacher certification, this program is for you. Applicants can select from an inclusive childhood, inclusive adolescent, or TESOL program.

Professional Certification: The Master of Science in Education (MSEd I)

If you hold a current NYSED initial certification and are seeking professional certification in the same field, these certifications might be the path for you. Options include Childhood (Grades 1-6); Adolescent (Grades 7-12); Dual Childhood/Special Education (Grades 1-6); and Dual Adolescent/Special Education (Grades 7-12).

Additional Certification: The Master of Science in Education II (MSEd II)

If you’re already certified to teach and are seeking an additional certification, an MSED II is for you. Options include Childhood Education (Grades 1-6); Dual Childhood/Special Education (Grades 1-6); Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12); Dual Adolescent/Special Education (Grades 7-12); Literacy Education (Birth - grade 6); and Literacy Education (Grades 5-12). Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Grades Pre K-12)

Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS)

Le Moyne offers several educational leadership pathways – School Building Leadership (SBL), School District Leadership (SDL), and School District Business Leadership (SDBL). If you are already a certified teacher looking for something new, educational leadership could be for you.

Graduate Education Courses

Depending on your next professional step, your courses will include everything from assessment strategies to literacy to linguistics.

Our graduate education faculty have spent decades in the classroom and in school leadership positions. They bring diverse, innovative and effective strategies to your educational and professional toolbox.

I treasure being able to make connections and share the connections that I already have with a current Le Moyne student, and I look forward to participating in the program again. Le Moyne was such a special place for me as a student, and being able to contribute to the community after I have graduated is such a wonderful way to say thank you to the place and the people that helped shape me into the person I am.”
