Why an Education Degree From Le Moyne?

Nothing is more rewarding than helping children learn and grow. Teaching the ABCs, stirring young imaginations with great works of literature or sparking their curiosity with fun science experiments – no matter what subject or age group you teach, you’ll make a meaningful difference.

When you study education as an undergraduate at Le Moyne, you have a range of programs to choose from, including inclusive adolescent education (content area and special education), inclusive childhood education (childhood education and special education), and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Grounded in the liberal arts and Jesuit tradition, our programs will train you to succeed in the classroom by creating inclusive learning environments and working with students with diverse learning abilities.

The Path to Teacher Certification Starts on the Heights

We’ll prepare you to achieve your New York State teacher certification and give you many opportunities to practice and develop your skills in schools throughout the state.

Education as a Major

We have three majors for inclusive childhood education (childhood and special education). You will major in education while completing your core requirements. You will then select one concentration in English, History, or Political Science. With this coursework, you will be prepared to teach the content of grades 1-6. Your education major will provide you with the teaching skills and strategies you will need as a future educator.

Education as a Concentration

Interested in pursuing a major in a subject area other than Education? We have several options for inclusive childhood education and inclusive adolescent education. We will work with you (and your advisor) to add a concentration in Education to your major, while helping you keep on track to meet your graduation requirements.

Education Courses

You’ll study childhood learning and special needs, instructional technology, STEM research, integration and instruction and literacy development. You will also put theory into practice in several hands-on teaching experiences. Check out all of Le Moyne’s education courses.

Research & Scholarship Opportunities

There are several opportunities for scholarships as well as research experiences for education students on the Heights.

From decades in the classroom to roles in administrative offices, Le Moyne’s education faculty have been in schools wearing every hat imaginable.

Learn how to create inclusive learning environments and work with students with diverse learning abilities.

I want my [students] to learn about different cultures and experiences, as well as the universal threads that bind us all together. When you can emotionally connect young readers to a story, that usually motivates them to take action in some way, too, for example, exposing and addressing injustices, and that brings me back full circle to my Jesuit education.””
