Why a Music Degree From Le Moyne?

Music is a universal language. It’s expressing your emotions, exploring your creativity and connecting with others. On the Heights, you’ll deepen your understanding of music through interdisciplinary programs, develop your technique and learn to perform like a professional. You’ll challenge yourself and become more confident as part of a talented community of friends and mentors.

As an undergraduate with a music minor, you’ll experiment with many different genres – from jazz, rock and classical to big band and Broadway. You’ll explore performance with our instrumental and vocal ensembles. And, you’ll learn theory and history, the elements of music and the practices of successful artists – all within the liberal arts foundations and Jesuit tradition of Le Moyne.

The Music Minor

In the 15-credit music program, you’ll develop your artistic technique and get experience collaborating and performing with others in our instrumental and vocal ensembles. Music minors earn nine credits in the classroom and six through participation in instrumental and/or voice lessons and ensembles. All minors take music history and music theory.

Ensemble Opportunities

Find your fit in a vocal or instrumental performance group on campus.

MUS 395A boasts full instrumentation, featuring strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments and performs multiple concerts both on and off campus each year. The orchestra performs music from all genres, including classical, film, pop, Broadway and more.

  • Please pre-register for placement auditions, which will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 5-7:30 p.m. in PAC 214.

Performing at the end of each semester, the Le Moyne College Jazz Ensemble (MUS 395B) aims to replicate the classic big band sound. Instrumentation consists of saxophones, trumpets, and trombones, with an occasional flute or clarinet, and a rhythm section of piano, bass, guitar and drums.

First rehearsal will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 7 p.m. in PAC 219.

The Le Moyne Rock Ensemble (MUS 395C) explores the world of rock music from 1955 to the present. Students listen to, discuss and arrange songs, in addition to collaborating on original songwriting as well. Rehearsals culminate in a public performance. The group is open to both instrumentalists and vocalists.

The LMC Jazzuits (MUS 394A) was formed in 2004 under the direction of Carol Jacobe. Specializing in vocal jazz repertoire and songs from the Great American Songbook, the Jazzuits are very active with performances on the Le Moyne campus as well as participating in jazz festivals, workshops and community performances.

The Le Moyne College Singers (MUS 394B) specialize in musical theatre and contemporary repertoire. The ensemble is open to singers from the entire Le Moyne community, including students, faculty and staff, with concerts scheduled throughout the semester.

The Le Moyne College Chamber Singers (MUS 394C) specialize in a mostly classical repertoire, including madrigals, operettas and works by modern classical composers. The Chamber Singers consist of 16 voices or less and perform towards the end of the semester.
