Why a Physics Degree From Le Moyne?

From black holes and vast galaxies to volcanoes and the ocean’s waves, the study of physics is a window to the universe. It’s also the science behind things we do every day – driving a car, cooking dinner, walking your dog or using the touchscreen on your phone. Simply put, physics helps us understand the way things work.

As an undergraduate physics major at Le Moyne, you’ll study the fundamental principles of nature. You’ll explore theory, quantum mechanics, computational techniques and relativity and test experiments in our high-tech labs. Present advanced research and analysis alongside faculty mentors and apply your problem-solving skills in real-world internships. Whether you dream of becoming an engineer, a scholar or an astrophysicist, your degree will come with the latest intelligence in your field, ready to make important scientific discoveries and advancements.

Thermodynamics Meets a Jesuit Education

Your physics degree from Le Moyne gives you a scientific edge with a liberal arts core.

Physics Undergraduate Degrees

You’ll study classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics and statistical physics and develop sound scientific communication and research skills. Consider a bachelor’s of art or a bachelor’s of science or explore our minors.

Physics Courses

You’ll study general and modern physics, statistics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetic theory, electronics, astrophysics, nuclear physics and astronomy.

Research & Scholarship Opportunities

There are a couple of scholarship opportunities you can consider as a physics student. The National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship provides scholarships for talented juniors and seniors majoring in STEM fields to become secondary school teachers. Each scholar will receive up to full tuition for the fall and spring semesters. And, the Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars Program for Women supports undergraduate women majoring in chemistry, computer science, mathematics or physics to study and teach in the sciences, mathematics and engineering.

Our faculty members have wide-ranging research interests, from the development of organic/inorganic composites to plasma physics.

The Jesuit mission is reflected in our group’s role in the flight control team. We serve the crew by being the watchful eye that ensures their safety in orbit. More largely, the ISS program serves the world in developing new technologies and making new scientific discoveries in space. The flight control team are the stewards keeping the station going, and it is very exciting to be a part of that.”
