It’s no surprise that many students come to Le Moyne with an interest in health care. After all, working in this field means you get to make a real difference in your community. Plus, the Bureau of Labor Statistics just announced that the health care sector is expected to grow much faster than average through 2032, with about 1.8 million job openings each year.

Le Moyne’s Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) is here to support you as you begin to pursue careers as physicians, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, podiatrists, veterinarians, or allied health care providers like physician assistants, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.

Student Support

Le Moyne’s Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) includes several benefits to future health care professionals. We will help you with credential reviews for professional school applicants (assessment of clinical experience(s), volunteer/service work and grades), letters of recommendation for certain programs (MD, DO, DDS/DMD, OD, DPM). setting up information sessions on applying to professional programs in health care, help with personal statements for professional school applications, scheduling information sessions with representatives of professional school programs, mock interview sessions, and one-on-one advisement sessions.

Required Coursework

The following are general requirements for admission to most graduate degree programs in the health professions: General Biology and Labs, General Chemistry and Labs, Organic Chemistry and Labs, Physics and Labs. The following are potential recommended or required courses: Biochemistry, Statistics/Calculus, Psychology/Sociology, Microbiology, Genetics, and Anatomy and Physiology

Health Care Experience

Many professional schools expect and/ or require exposure to the profession prior to application or admission. Professional programs may require a specific number of hours or type of experience (i.e., direct patient contact, shadowing, working with large/small animals, exposure to a variety of settings/locations, etc.).

Additional Experience

Your student experience at Le Moyne will help strengthen your applications to health professions schools. Explore opportunities to get involved with service to others, leadership, campus engagement, clubs and organizations, student government, athletics (NCAA, Club, Intramural), performing arts, and undergraduate research to name just a few.

Le Moyne’s HPAC Chair, Chad Corcoran, Ph.D., aims to share his passion for immunology with his students so that they can have a heightened appreciation for this area of human physiology.
