Our Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) prepares you to enter careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) or for fields that require a professional license. 

Funded through the New York State Education Department, we help historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students by offering services and activities to prepare them for a successful life beyond The Heights.

CSTEP Eligibility

Are you eligible? Our CSTEP program welcomes students who are New York State residents (one year or more); historically underrepresented (African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander) or economically disadvantaged, a full-time student (12 or more credit hours) and intend to pursue a major/career in the STEM fields and/or the licensed professions. Note: If you don’t meet these criteria, contact us about probationary admittance.

CSTEP Supports

CSTEP helps you through every part of your college experience.

How do you stay in the program? We require CSTEP students to:

  • Maintain a grade-point average of 2.5 or above
  • Meet with CSTEP staff three times each semester
  • Develop and maintain an academic plan
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, internships, research projects or other enrichment activities as outlined by the program.

As a CSTEP student, you’ll benefit from tutoring, advising, study groups, supplemental instruction and research opportunities. You’ll also participate in:

  • A pre-freshman summer program
  • Professional school examination preparation (MCAT, GRE, DAT, LSAT, GMAT)
  • Graduate school preparation

You’ll enjoy regular workshops and speaker series, professional mentoring, job shadowing and internships. CSTEP also provides students with:

  • Networking events
  • Conference participation
  • Travel to graduate schools and career fairs

CSTEP Opportunities

CSTEP also provides students with service opportunities, financial assistance with book awards and peer mentorship.
