Meet Our Team

Director
Matthew Fledderjohann has worked as a writing center tutor and writing program administrator for over fourteen years and at four different institutions. He brings to Le Moyne’s writing center his enthusiasm for the learning that can happen through one-to-one conversations and his commitment to helping people work through the difficulties of writing and writing instruction. He has an MA in English Literature from DePaul University, and he completed his PhD in Composition and Rhetoric at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he focused his research on what happens when writers encounter dissonance. His other research interests include writing center theory and pedagogy, writing across the curriculum, apocalyptic rhetoric, and endings.

Associate Director
Emily C. Perkins has over a decade of experience working in higher education at multiple institutions, specifically in areas related to literacy, writing, and academic integrity. After graduating with Honors in Philosophy from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, she completed an MS in Childhood Education, followed by a PhD in Teaching, Curriculum and Change at the University of Rochester. Her dissertation investigated the challenges educators face when trying to make learning to read relevant and meaningful, and demonstrated how canine-assisted reading programs are an innovative way to provide social, emotional, and academic support to all student learners. She recently obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study in Trauma Informed Practice to become a stronger resource and advocate for students as they navigate through their college experience. She brings to Le Moyne her passion and enthusiasm for building relationships across the campus community in efforts to promote best practices for academic success.

Meet Our Tutors

She is also a member of multiple clubs on campus, including the creative writing club, the communications club, and LCTV. She started her academic career with an associate degree in communications from Onondaga Community College. Before college, Anne spent 15 years as a full-time stay-at-home parent to three children, two of whom are in college right now as well. Her philosophy in life is to treat all people with the same amount of respect and compassion, no matter one’s age or life experiences. She brings enthusiasm for learning and helping others learn and feel confident in their abilities, and she is known for being helpful and making those around her feel comfortable and understood.

While their passion remains firmly fixed in the art of writing fiction, over the course of their writing career, they’ve gained experience in essay writing, scriptwriting, and poetry as well. They could talk endlessly about films and television shows that they adore and hope that one day their own creations will inspire the same level of creativity and excitement in someone else.

Carly N. is a senior English and communications double major with minors in advanced writing, arts administration, and film. Along with working at the Writing Center, she is also editor-in-chief of Le Moyne’s student-run newspaper The Dolphin, as well as an active member of LMC theater and the symphony orchestra.

Lily G. is a senior psychology major who transferred to Le Moyne last year. This will be her third semester working as a Writing Center tutor. She earned an associate degree from Onondaga Community College in 2023 after spending several years in the professional sector. Taking a non-traditional route to college allowed Lily to explore many passions and connect with people from all walks of life, eventually leading her to establish the goal of becoming a therapist. As a tutor, she hopes to help writers find self-efficacy in order to tell their stories authentically. When Lily is not tutoring or in school, she works as a substance abuse counselor in a men’s halfway house. In her spare time, she enjoys weightlifting and playing ultimate frisbee on Le Moyne’s club team.

Mary K. is a senior English major with a theatre minor and has been working in the writing center since Spring 2024. As an English major, she has spent her time at Le Moyne learning what makes a strong essay and how she can help others do the same. She is eager to meet new students and help them go over their rough drafts or brainstorm ideas for their papers. From being part of the theatre community at Le Moyne, she has learned how to communicate with others and apply her creativity to the work that she does in the writing center.

Michael S. is a junior political science major and is going into his first full year of tutoring at the Writing Center. He is from a small town outside of Utica, New York, and he participates in a handful of extracurricular activities, such as Model EU, The Dolphin newspaper, and the Student Government Association. Outside of school, he enjoys watching all different kinds of movies, as well as Giants and Mets games when he has a chance. Michael is thrilled to have the opportunity to assist more writers throughout these next semesters as he continues to learn and improve as a tutor, writer, and person.
