We Get It: Financial Aid Can Feel Like a Puzzle

As a parent, you want to help your student pursue their dreams and you want to make smart, informed choices about how to finance their education. But let’s be honest: the language of financial aid can feel like a different world.

The good news? You’re not in this alone.

At Le Moyne, we believe that clarity is empowering. Let’s walk through the essentials of your student’s financial aid package together.

Four Steps to Getting Started

When your student receives their financial aid package, it’s a combination of:

  • Grants and Scholarships: Funds that don’t need to be repaid.
  • Federal Student Loans: Often low-interest, with flexible repayment terms.
  • Work-Study Opportunities: Part-time jobs that help with college costs.
  • Optional Parent or Private Loans: Additional resources if needed.

Every family’s package is personalized based on your student’s eligibility and your household financial situation. If anything feels unclear, our financial aid team is always here to explain, line by line.

Pro Tip: Not all aid looks the same. Your student’s award letter is tailored to their specific needs and we’re happy to talk it through!

After aid is applied, you’ll see your “net cost” what remains to be covered. Don’t worry! There are several ways to manage this:

  • Monthly Payment Plans
Spread payments over time for greater flexibility.
  • Federal Parent PLUS Loan
A loan in the parent’s name to help cover educational costs.
  • Private Loans
Additional option to explore with your financial institution.

Remember: we’re here to discuss what works best for your family’s circumstances.

Questions are not just welcome, they’re expected!  We’re here to help clarify:

  • How aid is calculated
  • Deadlines for accepting aid
  • Options for adjusting your payment plan

Pro Tip: If something about your family’s financial situation has changed, let us know! We may be able to reassess your aid package.

We always recommend that students stay connected to their financial aid process. Their portal will give them the latest updates, and we also encourage families to have open conversations about budgeting and expectations.

Bonus Tip: Encourage your student to apply for on-campus jobs early. It’s a great way to build skills and help with expenses.

At Le Moyne, our priority is making education accessible and transparent. We’ll work with you to create a plan that fits your family and supports your student’s success.

No question is too small. No family is alone in this process.

We're ready to support you every step of the way!
